Colts front seven slammed by USA TODAY, Pro Football Focus

The Colts defense appears to be heading into the season with some serious doubters.

Among them are USA TODAY writer Nate Davis and Pro Football Focus writer Louie Benjamin, who published rankings this week for front sevens across the league. Davis, who ranked the linebackers and defensive lines separately and placed the Colts 29th at linebacker and dead last among defensive lines.

“An almost unrecognizable group,” Davis wrote of the linebackers. “Gone are Robert Mathis and D’Qwell Jackson. Free agents Jabaal Sheard and John Simon should play outside with Barkevious Mingo hoping for a role. Jon Bostic, Sean Spence, Antonio Morrison and Edwin Jackson will vie for inside duties. …
